7 Health Tips for Lash Artists

Taking care of yourself is the ultimate eyelash health! At The Lash Professional, we believe that in order for you to care for others, you must first care for yourself. In order for you to feel good and do your job well, you have to be kind to yourself and your body in order to keep your mind and body healthy.

Here are seven tips for taking better care of your body inside and outside the lash salon. Cheers to your eyelash health!

Posture

It is very important to maintain good posture when whipping! Leaning too far forward or hunched over a bed of Lashes can cause neck and back pain and may even lead to possible long-term back problems over time. To avoid this, we recommend keeping the client’s head as close to you as possible so you don’t have to lean too far. Position the lashing bed and adjustable stool at a height where you can sit up straight with your feet still touching the floor. (Place your feet on either side of the bed so you straddle the bed when doing service. *If your bundled bed allows you to put your legs under the table, this may be another comfortable option.) In this position , you should be able to rest your arms comfortably on the pillow at a 90-degree angle.

Stretch

As an Eyelash Artist, you spend most of your day sitting and sedentary. Therefore, it is important to take breaks between clients to get up, stretch, and move around. This move is important for your muscles, joints, and blood circulation. Make sure to give yourself a break throughout the day to walk around the block, or at least get up, walk around and stretch.

Drink water

Staying hydrated throughout the day will maintain your energy levels and keep your mind and body in top shape.

Eat healthy

Choose foods rich in energy and fuel. Not only will you feel better and more energetic throughout the day, but you won’t have a sugar/caffeine crash in the afternoon. 5) Rest – Get enough sleep! The amount of sleep each person needs at night to function properly the next day varies from person to person. It’s important to understand what your body needs to feel rested, stay alert, and perform at its best. If you feel tired and groggy in the first place, still sitting behind the lash bed will only make it harder to focus.

Dress comfortably

That doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t also dress cutely. However, we recommend that you choose clothing that will sit comfortably throughout the day, not be too tight, or cause you to move around and/or require constant adjustments.

Eye care

Squinting or straining your eyes while performing services can cause headaches and blurred vision. If you find this happening, we recommend using magnifying (or reading) glasses or even adding extra/brighter lights to your workstation.

Exercise

Rest-time exercise is vital to the overall health and care of your body. Whether it’s yoga, rock climbing, running, or more gentle exercise — like walking or stretching, staying active and maintaining a strong “core” can have a big impact on your ability to sit and whip for extended periods of time.

When you’re rested, strong, and healthy, you’ll feel better, have more energy, and be better able to take care of your clients. “You can’t pour wine from an empty glass – take care of yourself first.”
